DNA Template Primers

The preferred substrate for DNA polymerase is a DNA polynucleotide as the template and a DNA oligonucleotide as the primer. Reverse transcriptase will give greater activity with an RNA polynucleotide as template and a DNA oligonucleotide primer.

We offer both types of substrates to enable you to readily distinguish these two enzyme activities. If the polyribonucleotide template gives greater activity than the polydeoxynucleotide template, this implies a reverse transcriptase. Conversely, the opposite result implies DNA polymerase.

Catalog Number P-4112, Poly A ·p(dT)12-18 contains 5 parts polymer to one part primer. All other template ·primers are equimolar complexes of the two components. They are furnished as the sodium salts and are sold on the basis of A260 Units.
